It has been a whirlwind few months, but we believe the Staples of Home project is entering our final month of renovation. The past several weeks Shelly has done an awesome job picking out tile, faucets, bath tubs, vanities for the bathrooms and getting everything lined up for the next few weeks of remodel fervor. I think all the materials are nearly acquired and sit in our overstuffed garage. This week, the work kicked off and the results are going to look amazing!
This past week we had our landscaper come and give the grass and flower beds some much needed love. They killed all the weeds in the lawn and raked out all the dead greenery. Then they put a thick layer of mulch all over the lawn, oversewed it, and built-up the flower beds. New plants went in and the grass is already starting to grow, thanks to a mix of rain and sunshine the past week!
They also took care of the giant cottonwood tree on the side yard, hacking up roots and building up a nice flower bed around it. This area of the lawn was completely unusable before, now it looks nicely landscaped.
Coolest of all, Shelly designed a rock path from the driveway, through the gate to the sidewalk where the garbage bins are stored, making that task easier.
She also continued the design on the other side of the house with a beautiful rock landing near the shed. They did a great job installing the rock and once that shed gets painted (along with the rest of the house) it is going to look like a million bucks! :)
This week we have the siding and the paint guy coming! He is going to replace all the damaged siding on the back side of the house where roof problems caused damage to it, and the paint guy is starting to prepare to give the entire house a brand new coat of paint. We’ve been waiting for that a long time…can’t wait to get it in before the rainy season starts.
Inside we already have the kitchen going in. The cabinets we ordered look just like the renders I posted earlier and are really nice quality, all-wood designs with sturdy builds and soft close hinges. I asked the kitchen installer what he thought of the quality of them, given he sees a lot of cabinets, and he said they were definitely on the high end. He also saw the price we paid and said he thought we got a really good deal! Here is the new wall of cabinets we are adding to the kitchen under the newly installed window Shelly, Ethan and I installed last spring:
It is so rewarding to see it come together! :)
The tile guy is also coming to start tiling in the bathrooms. This is one job I wish I could help with, Shelly and I enjoyed tiling the laundry room floor. Alas, my new job is keeping me plenty busy and so I’ll enjoy the fruits of all their hard work. A big shout out to Todd Whetten @ Sound Contracting for helping finding subcontractors and getting them all lined up this month - Todd is a rock star and so easy to work with!
Seeing the lighting and cabinets and tile Shelly has picked coming together is really exciting, I can already see how this house is going to rock! I actually feel disappointed that we aren’t going to be able to stay here longer, I would love to live in this house when it is complete. Hopefully it will make someone a very happy and comfortable home.
