Shelly is traveling to Utah today to keep our next project moving, so you have to put up with me again on the blog. I guess that is only fair since she is the one here all week amidst the banging as contractors make their way in and out of the house all day long. :)
We made good progress on our kitchen this week! We now have a working sink for the first time in 6 months in this house! Not to mention a dishwasher, fridge, and double range ovens! Shelly spent a few hours on Saturday emptying all the kitchen boxes we packed in June when we moved into our new cabinets, and I actually cooked our first meal in our new house today. Wow, what a journey it has been!
There are still lots of small (and some not so small) things to finish before the kitchen is picture perfect, but it is very functional and looking really good. I can't wait to take more professional photos of it and share, but wanted to share a brief update today. Sometimes in life you have to step back and get some perspective to appreciate how far you've come. This is a pretty good view of the transformation in process from the time we bought the house, through demolition, construction, painting and today. I'll take better photos of details with my camera once the work is done, but here are few quick snaps from my iPhone. I'm loving the full size, under mount farm sink Shelly chose for the kitchen. The bottom of the sink has a nice gentle slope toward the drain in the corner so you don't constantly have to wipe everything down.
The full wall of drawers on the new kitchen wall are fantastic, add a ton of storage and style to the kitchen (this was previously an unused nook). The new island is large and offers seating for 4! Shelly chose some really nice stools that compliment the rest of the furniture in the house.
As you can see from above, the countertops are a marbled quartz, making them look a soft grey at a distance, a subtle contrast to the white cabinets, matching the walls. Here is a close up:
So here it is.. .the new kitchen. It is a really spacious kitchen, so open and inviting and visually stunning. Check out the before/after shot from this angle (click the arrow on the edge to go back and forth) and ask yourself: which kitchen would you rather have?
I've also really been enjoying the back yard, now that the landscaping is in and the grass is starting to grow...the views of the fall colors are fantastic right now.
